Hi Jeff,

The tricky bit will be to migrate the master node. If you attempt to leave
first host from the cluster, you’ll get a message like:

Host ml8cl-ml1 cannot leave until nothing else in the cluster depends on it.
The following dependencies must first be resolved:

The following forests are still assigned to this host:

ml8cl-ml1 This host is selected as a bootstrap host on this cluster. Remove the
host from the list of bootstrap hosts first:
Click here to edit the bootstrap hosts on this
cluster.<http://ml8cl-ml1:8001/cluster-admin.xqy?section=cluster&local-cluster=true>
Click OK to return to previous screen.

You will have to migrate all forests attached to any of the old nodes, to one
of the new hosts, make one of the new ones bootstrap host, and only then the
initial master (as well as the others) can leave the cluster. Apart from that
it sounds like a valid plan.

You may want to think carefully on how to migrate forests to a different host.
Do you want to use rebalancing for that?

Don’t forget to migrate license keys, by the way..

Cheers,
Geert

Subject: [MarkLogic Dev General] Changing Cluster Name

We currently have 3 node cluster up and running. These are leased servers and
will be decommissioned so we are in the processes of incorporating 3 new leased
servers

Our thought process is to do the following

1) Add the 3 new servers to the existing cluster

2) Test

3) Remove the 3 older servers

4) Test

My question is one of the older servers is obviously considered the ‘host’ …
how do we (or should we?) change the ‘host’ to one of the newer servers?
