Hi, Hans:

You can think of the rest-reader and rest-writer roles as system roles.

If you don't assign those roles to any application user, the user's won't be
able to see each other's documents.

Instead, you assign the rest-reader and the rest-writer execute privileges to
users.

For more information, see:

Hoping that helps,

Erik Hennum

Subject: [MarkLogic Dev General] Creating private documents through ReST

Hi,

I'm trying to devise a way to create documents through ReST which are private
to a specific user. I had hoped that I can create a role for each user and
then grant read and update permissions to that role. However, when creating a
document through the ReST interface, it seems that there is no way to remove
the default rest-reader:read and rest-writer:update permissions [*]

Is there another way how one can create private documents through the ReST API?

Thanks,
Hans

[*] https://docs.marklogic.com/REST/PUT/v1/documents "If no permissions are
explicitly set, documents you create with the MarkLogic REST API have a read
permission for the rest-reader role and an update permission for the
rest-writer role. When you explicitly set permissions, they are combined with
the default permissions for the role of the current user."
