Not only do I regularly back up my iPad directly to my iMac via iTunes, but I back up that backup elswhere, including TimeMachine, periodic disk clone, cloud backup (with encryption), and DVD.

(When he was in college, my son worked in the tape library -- remember computer tape?? -- at the university computing center. They had a motto: "If it's worth backing up, it's worth backing up twice)
