I tend to do it on a computer in a text editor (BBedit is my favorite and has syntax coloring etc - but vi is a viable alternative too) because editing text on a phone is beyond my tedium limit... Then I copy it onto the phone, there are several ways to do that.
If I used an iPad, I might have learned the native way to do it.
