I did hack around in the way you suggested and the installation script 
succeded..

However running bin/jqt results in error

qt.qpa.plugin: Could not find the Qt platform plugin "cocoa" in ""
This application failed to start because no Qt platform plugin could be 
initialized. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem.

Not sure if this is a filecase problem.
