The fun starts (as it ever did with APL) when you've prototyped something
useful, and you have to maintain it a year later. Or someone else does.

To complete the "apologia" we just need a compelling explanation of why J
needs its own version of scientific notation, and represents division by
"%", not the near-universal "/", plus having an extra minus sign, "_" .

Whenever I hit this problem, e.g. over NuVoc and Guides/iOS, I make a copy
of the page collection to be replaced inside my own "User:" folder, edit
that, then copy the finished replacement back over the original collection.
It's not vastly different from what Art suggests: a parallel wiki. At each
stage you have a working wiki overall. A final patch-up of page links is
sometimes needed, but this gives little trouble in practice, since you can
scan the links for embedded "User:" or look for red links.
