Much as I finally think I understand it, I fail to be able to modify it (satisfactorily). I may well have slowed this down, but trying to get inside, by trying to get error messages out of it. My feeling is that something in it's advanced Pythonic implementation conflicts with my simplistic understanding/tweaks.
