Hi, I’m starting a Mentor Topic of the Month thread. Each month, we can pick one aspect of mentoring and share short experiences, examples, or advice that others can learn from. If this generates some good discussion, I’ll keep going with it.
This month’s topic is helping podlings grow new contributors. Early in incubation, activity often depends on just a few people. Mentors can play an important role in encouraging the podling community to make participation easier and more welcoming for newcomers. A steady flow of new contributors is one of the best signs of a healthy community, but also one of the hardest things for podlings to develop on their own. Some prompts to get us started: - How can mentors help podlings create good on-ramps for new contributors?| - What are effective ways to encourage podlings to share tasks or documentation that newcomers can pick up? - Any good examples where a podling successfully broadened its contributor base during incubation? Please share short examples or ideas that have worked for you or your podlings.
