I proposed the following changes to Jakarta's charter to the ASF board a
few hours.  Essentially what I intended to do was to take replace the
legislated charter with the publically posted goals that Jakarta has been
operating under for as long as I have been aware of.

The following points were raised:
   An objection was raised to the omittion of the words open-source from
   the first paragraph.  I accept this and will submit a revision restoring
   that phrase.
   A request was made that a stronger statement be made about adhering to
   open standards be added.  I will work back with that person to find
   acceptable wording.
   A request was made that we omit the company names and e-mail addresses
   from the resolution.  This certainly meets with my approval as it is a
   maintenance nightmare keeping up with everybody's current company
   association ;-).

Based on these comments, I view the new charter as substantially approved
and intend to resume the normal course of Jakarta business.
