Too many of the Java APIs related to Web services are still making their way through the JCP (JAXB, JAXM, JAXR, JAX-RPC, Java APIs for WSDL) and several of the XML standards are still in flux (SOAP is now part of the W3C XML Protocol Activity and WSDL is only a W3C Note). Furthermore, every whitepaper seems to define web services slightly differently.
