mod_jk is STILL part of Tomcat. We have also a new Tomcat
sub-project called Jakarta-Tomcat-Connectors which include
mod_jk, mod_webapp and some experimentals code, where
all the developpement effort for connectors (web-server to
servlet-engine) is done.
Discussed mainly on tomcat-dev list.
I suggest you to report the bug to bugzilla,
http://nagoya.apache.org/bugzilla/index.html,
selecting tomcat3 and giving as much information
that's possible
