i've only implemented it using Win2K, however reading through the prior 
mentioned pdf the author mentions that "Authentication Users group in 
Pre-Windows 2000 Compatible Access" should be on. and you can also start 
winbindd with '-d 3' which was very helpful, for me at least, in finding the 
culprit.
