Ok, I had this Problem before, with Slackware, Suse, and FreeBSD,
the thing is (perhaps) that your monitor is not supported on this distrebution, you have to look for the exact specefications of your monitor like
hsync = 31.5 - 35.5 khz
vsync = 50 - 87 Hz

(these are my monitor specefications "GoldStar 1453")
and your video card like Savage or Savage 3D ...
then you have to run xf86config and do the X configration your self

PS: try to use a low resolution like 800x600
