I use a Thinkpad T21 which is an older model PIII 800 Mhz. I bought it on Ebay for $270 and then added memory to 512 MB for about $120 more. I run it with Ubuntu and XP. When I received the laptop, I discovered it was in excellent condition and had not seen much use. I even wrote an article about it: http://www.linuxjournal.com/article/8462 You can monitor a Linux Thinkpad mailing list http://mailman.linux-thinkpad.org/mailman/listinfo/linux-thinkpad On that list, you will get many recommendations with regard to Thinkpads. I personally consider them the best, but others have their own experiences. I would do this again BTW.
