Ramadan Mubarak unto you all.
I would like to compile a list of various projects to setup using GNU and GNU
like tools for beginners to venture easily into our world. Projects of various
degrees of difficulties in order to help IT students accomplish a useful setup
that they can use in their daily life. Things that solve immediate problems for
them. Basically, to show them where to start and the steps needed to get to a
well defined finish.
I figured that learning by doing works well. Duh.
Example:
Project: Online APP using PHP. Guest book app from the net.
Technologies used: DB server, web server, OS, scripting language, CGI.
Required Knowledge: OS installation, users management, Servers confs,
programing, application installations..
Difficulty (1-10) : 3
Methodology: follow online howtos . Ordered URL links
Project: Linux Print server for Windows network
Technologies used: OS, samba, networking,....
Required Knowledge: OS installation, users management, Servers confs,
Networking, application installations..
Difficulty (1-10) : 2
Methodology: follow online howtos . Ordered URL links
Project: Linux Internet Gateway for multiple windows machines.
Technologies used: OS, TCP/IP, networking,NAT, firewall, DSL, Dialup, wireless
Required Knowledge: OS installation, users management, Servers confs,
Networking, application installations..
Difficulty (1-10) : 4
Methodology: follow online howtos . Ordered URL links
You get the idea. Please help me refine the above categorization. Please
propose a name to any of the above if you see fit.
Of course there will be more specification for each project. This is an
excellent use of the wiki. An Arabic translation of each project is a must. At
least for the categorization like above. Is the wiki still installed on
jolug.org ?
This is a dream situation for us. Propose stuff. Don't impliment them. I know
we are good at that. Arnt't we? ;)
Please propose projects. Any project you like will do. The outline above is
good but not required. Someone else may create an outline for your project
later.
I will compile the initial list and later it will be a wiki page for anyone to
contibute to.
