Donna;

In APL:

     1.1-.1
1

that is, subtraction is performed.

In J:

  1.1-.1
1.1

that is the "less" verb is performed. For one who has APL as his first c.l., this is a gotcha. The need to prefix fractional nouns with 0 does not come naturally.

This observation _was_ tangential to the discussion.

It is not my nature to be a (canine)pack animal. Perhaps it's the meme you are posting that is attracting the swarmed response. Perhaps we're being too Shroeder'esque and overcomplicating things.

Dear Randy

RE: The balance of your e-mail not otherwise addressed.

1.1-.1
1.1
   1.1-0.1
1
   -,1
_1

I am not sure what you refer to as a gotcha.

Unless it refers to having fun sending me e-mails in which there is endless need to re-explain the same points as in the childhood game of repeating back the last thing that was said by the other person in hopes of frustrating and exhausting them but in this version with slight variation and working in packs.

If your question was something else, I apologize for my lack of proper attention.

I'm thinking this is different in the case of 1 and 1.1-.1, where

1 = 1.1 - .1
but
([]dr 1){ne}[]dr 1.1-.1

NB. Excuse the APL, I'm being lazy in not looking up the foreign for data representation.

(J-note)
 1.1-.1
1.1

was something I had to think about for a bit. Definitely a gotcha.
