I am in Ísland now and APL never became popular here - mostly because of the character issues - I have tried to introduce J here and displayed it many a times I do not know how many people are actually using it I have been in Linux groups here and there is a growing interest for Linux Same here though getting people to meet is a bit hard - most there is are discussions on post lists and occasional meetings M$ has backings with money and invites for pizzas and drinks and gets meetings going Interestingly enough I meet many of the people interested in Linux on M$ meetings but they claim to only be there for the pizzas and drinks but they also admit to use M$ also just like me I try to introduce J any time I can and most people in Linux or M$ meetings think it is cool and interesting but..... The interest in the J post lists seem to be growing even if I have never seen anyone from Ísland participate I have no statistics about how interest is growing - the added number of post lists and number of messages indicates that it is I hope it is growing and someone besides me will get interested enough here in Ísland to ask for assistance and not just me trying to push it Special interest groups seem to have a hard time getting members to meet 2006/11/12, Devon McCormick <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>:
Well, I am trying to think of ways to boost the attendance. One of our members had the idea of adding a sort of "Beginning Beginner's" section of the meeting to help people get over the initial, simple things that can be so daunting about J to newbies. Another idea is to have a session more focussed, hands-on the computer meeting some place quieter - our venue in the Heartland Brewery can be noisy though it's fun. Does your APL group still meet? The NYC APL group had its last meeting several years ago though there is a Dyalog APL meeting here on Monday.
