Thanks for the eagle eye.

Sometime, many months ago, I pressed a wrong key.  It was
a control key.  It was only long after that that I realized
that that errant key had caused Microsoft Word to run its
'Auto-Format' code, which, among other things, looks for
sequences like *xxx* and replaces it with boldface xxx .

By then, it was too late to revert to the version before
the formatting, so I had to go through looking for all
the places that got mangled.  I missed this one.

If anyone else is maintaining a document under Word, I recommend
you set your Auto-Format options to uncheck everything, so that
the same thing won't happen to you.
