Michael,

        I am assuming you still can not get control of the
Mac. If this persists, and you have a Mac store nearby, then
hurry on down there.

        Have you tried a forced reboot again? That sometimes
helps.

        Have you tried the key combination
Option+Command+Exc to force an application to quit? This
sometimes gets the attention of an out-of-control processor.

        Had you installed the previous version (601a, I
think)? Did it work.

        That final '.' in the mv command has troubled me in
the past. I can't remember whether I included it or not when
I last installed 601a. I don't think I've installed 601c.
