Your locate command does not find and of the files.
(locate is defined in my alias file as
"locate find / -name !:1 -print"
)
And my system requires sudo with locate.
Individual ls's find all but wget.info which was not
part of the binaries supplied by
http://www.statusq.org/images/wget.zip
I have never done any builds so I look for binaries.

+ My wget is
+
+ $ locate wget
+ /usr/local/bin/wget
+ /usr/local/etc/wgetrc
+ /usr/local/info/wget.info
+ /usr/local/man/man1/wget.1
+ ...
+
+ See if all files are in those locations,
+ see if /usr/local/bin/wget has executable chmod
+
+ It may also be an incompatible binary version

+
+ Maybe getting from http://www.gnu.org/software/wget/
+ nad building is better.
+
+ Hrrr, I hate it too, when you are forced to devolve to
+ command line by GUI deniers. :-)
+
+ But we don't have very broad experience for JAL on Mac,
+ so it would be helpful to have better clearer instructions
+ how to get non-standard stuff. (Note to self).
