I decided I'd like to use JAL. I've not yet dug up the
previous posts to these forums on that subject -- I tried
to install it just based on what I can easily see at
jsoftware.com

Here's a few usability notes on how I see it, today:

[1] I see conflicting instructions.
http://www.jsoftware.com/jwiki/JAL/Package_Manager
says (after a careful reading) that I MUST install it
directly, for J601, but http://www.jsoftware.com/jwiki/JAL/j601
says this is not recommended.

[2] I do not see diagnostics. I went with the default
http and unzip command line arguments, and I believe
they work, but JAL says that they do not, and I get no
diagnostics from it about what's failing.

Hypothetically speaking, I've tested the programs manually
from the command line, but I don't know that I'm doing
exactly what JAL is doing (for example, with % substitutions).
Ideally, when things are not working right, I'd like to see the
exact commands that JAL is issuing and whatever output
(error messages or whatever) were issued by the command.

Or, if the commands aren't being found, I'd like to know
which of the two commands it's having the problem with.

Anyways, I expect I'll get this working, but I think it
could use a bit of "polish".

Thanks,
