You are quite right.
require 'print'
print i.3
works! The reason I thought I was getting nothing is that my
default printer was set to another place and since, as you point out,
there is no print dialog, I assumed incorrectly that nothing had
happened. I agree that J should use the standard OSX Print interface
(for the print verbs as well as the Print Menu item).
