J 6's support for nouns in forks lets you mix arithmetic
with algebra, using named verbs (perhaps undefined) as
placeholder variables
  3 = 0.5 * 9.8 * t ^ 2:
  (6%9.8) =  t ^ 2:
  (9.8*%:6%9.8) =  9.8 * t

One of J's interesting quirks here is that verb display ignores
9!:10'' -- this can be a quick way of displaying a result using
"full floating point precision".
  9.8 * 1:
9.8000000000000007 * 1:

You can mix J's rational and floating point notations, if you
want decimal approximations of rational numbers
  16r3 3.14
5.33333 3.14
  16r3e0
5.33333
