J is a dialect of APL -- but its introduction did not mean that
everyone already using APL could switch (or wanted to -- but
"could" plays a huge part).

Let's say I am running an APL application on some ancient
out of date VM/CMS mainframe clone, and I'm paying for system
support on an incident by incident basis where if my system ever
fails I probably lose a big chunk of my customer base -- what does
J offer me?
