Murray, you are acting as a total customer. :) The problem is, after reading you initial message twice, it is still very vague as for what you are trying to accomplish there. So it is good to start with a good description of your usecase and requirements, instead of concrete file names and scripts. It just creates an impression that you are doing too much micro-management and customization of system scripts. The goal of your configuration is - be able to deploy J install and J user folders whereever you like - express what you need only in bin/profilex.ijs and this should be attainable with j602. The question about configuration experience was discussed in [Jbeta] My Configuration http://www.jsoftware.com/pipermail/beta/2008-January/002937.html See also this, which was addressed in j602a release [Jbeta] profilex http://www.jsoftware.com/pipermail/beta/2008-February/002988.html --- Murray Eisenberg <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > I did read the installation notes on-line, and the comment there, > "Installing in other than HOME can be a nuisance and has no compelling > benefit with the possible exception of an install for Multiple Users." > Well, can one still manipulate HOME by a Windows environment variable? > And can one keep the HOME variable used by J different from the HOME > variable used by other programs? > > The whole point of the configuration I described below, which worked > over several releases of J previously, was to: (1) NOT have any user > directory on the Windows system drive C:, but to keep it in my separate > data partition, and NOT have the J program files on the C: drive but on > a separate programs drive; and (2) to keep separate the program > directory and my configuration directory -- so I did NOT have to spend > hours upon hours reconfiguring everything each time a new release > appeared but, instead, could make a few quick changes and be off doing > productive work. > > These changes in J6.02 confirm my belief that software developers are > the curse of the software-using classes. > > [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: > > > > Message: 3 > > Date: Wed, 19 Mar 2008 23:46:32 -0400 > > From: Murray Eisenberg <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > > Subject: [Jgeneral] install & configure J602 under Windows XP > > To: [email protected] > > Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > > Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1; format=flowed > > > > The J602 installer for Windows offers three choices none of which is > > what I want: I want to install for all users, but NOT in c:\Program > > Files.
