Xmas came early! I got the ATT’s Fuze ( http://www.htc.com/us/product.aspx?id=75286) which is essentially the HTC's Touch Pro device but without the front low-res 2nd camera and without the high price (you can get it from Amazon for $175 with a 2-year contract). I have had it for a week and my impression so far is that it is an ideal current host for the PPC version of J. These are the highlights: 0. J seems more stable in Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional versus Windows Mobile 5.0 (it can stay in the background, at least, for a long time without disappearing). There is an apparent issue if you try to stop J using the quick task manager and you attempt to cancel the operation: its output screen seems to vanish and sometimes J fails to restart requiring a soft reset (but the situation was worse using Windows Mobile 5.0 requiring soft resets often). 1. If you have a good pair of eyes (or glasses) the VGA screen allows you to see a lot more on the screen after editing the font sizes to 6 in Config.ijs; I can kill time now by running the Labs without panning. The Demo/Plot graphs look great as well. 2. The five row keyboard it is well suited for J. I am not a big fan of ATT’s remapping of the keyboard but the Sym function allows you to enter symbols fairly well.
3. The system shows more that 110 MB of RAM available (of the total 294.66 MB) after loading J as the only application (additional 20 MB could be released by disabling HTC’s TouchFLO 3D interface). 4. The Fuze (MSM7201A - 528 MHz) is about 50% faster than my old XV6700 (PXA270 - 416MHz) when inverting a 100x100 random matrix. The Fuze is a great device on its own. I no longer feel jealous, at all, when I see people with those ubiquitous iPhones :) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- For information about J forums see http://www.jsoftware.com/forums.htm
