I am an APL programmer, and I can't see how learning APL first would
help to learn J better than to learn J directly.  Now, it might be quite
worthwhile adapt for J the book by Gilman \& Rose, \underline{APL, an
Interactive Approach}.  Forks and hooks are new in J, as are many of the
looping constructs and grammar.
