Dear Ric, 

things are working again by clicking on 'J.jar' and the gear symbol, why J.jar 
of course baffles me

just why when i click on 'bin'  with my small devices things work is also not 
obvious

right now I lack the confidence that time and effort trying to uninstall 
everything and reinstalling everything is going to get me anywhere further
