Syntax coloring of Term is controlled by TermScheme is config|gtkide. You can change it to Edit to have the syntax coloring as Edit.
The grey background for text pane could be possible by providing a new syntax class in lang definition. Detail avaiblable in help|gtk|gtksourceview.
