Please pardon me... I haven't yet searched for a duplicate report... although I don't see this bug identified on the bug pages...
When defining global variables named "x" or "y" they do not show up when using the *names* verb (and its associated verb, *nl*) from the z library. So most of the exercises in the documentation (which use "y" extensively) can have a new-comer chasing rainbows... I spent much time perplexed about this issue until it occurred to me that these names are used for the left and right arguments to dyads... which is probably the source of the bug. This also affects the *e.* verb. I tested 'm', 'n', 'u', and 'v' -- they are not affected. Seemingly only "x" and "y" have problems.
