What we all forget, is that most Eupoean contries, apart from England, have
had peace for almost 30 years, so a generation has grown up that fear war.
By that I mean they have not known a conflict till Bosnia etc, whilst England
had Ireland.

Voltaire: a frenchman.

My ancestry is, British, French, welsh and German, bit of a Bastard.
As many know I was in London as a child in WWII, evacuated to liverpool and
they wiped out my Grandparents house that very first night, I and some
survived. I was either being bombed or fighting from the age of 7 till 25
when I left England and came to Oz.

I have no personal angst with Americans but I do have with the administration
over the years. Soldiers are not the best ambassadors for any country
normally: during WWII they caused fights between Diggers and themselves as
they also did in England. So do not be suprised when you become a "Super
Power", that you are the butt of angst, just like England was with her
Empire. At that time, and during WWII, the US mistrusted England and her
government of that era too.

Remember it was said at the time of the Gulf war, "why didn't they finish the
job"; now things are coming home to roost.
