Hi gang, in case you haven't seen it yet, Newton (http://newton.codecauldron.org/The+Newton+Component+Model) looks very cool. I played around with it a bit yesterday.
Main good points IMHO are: - Aggregation of OSGi components into larger blocks - transparent use of Jini features like scaling, moving of services etc. VERY powerful combination! - built in load balancing scenarios via Jini Al in all, very interesting and promising. This looks like what DPML would have been if we had been able to choose OSGi as Metro :) But, IMHO there are a couple of downsides: - Much XML, looks very similar to the old metro block.xml, hard to maintain/refactor - GPL/dual license - not sure about commercialinstallations and community support Has anyone come over something similar that is useable for contribution and development? Then, I think the concept of aggregation of components would sit nicely in the OSGi spec, if the mechanics and the format can be worked out more. WDYT? /peter _______________________________________________ general mailing list [email protected] http://lists.ops4j.org/mailman/listinfo/general
