IDEA will auto-sync with the pom.xml, so when there is a change to a pom, I run "Re-import" and pretty much don't think much about it. However, it takes a bit longer to set up an in-container debug "Run Configuration", which I normally do via the Remote debugging feature of the JVM, meaning the full system runs via Pax Runner and the debugger attaches itself to it.
