ah, ok that did the trick.
don't know why it didn't work the last time I tried with the argline
arguments but maybe I did something wrong then :)
no hanging right now and no issues left.

Maven also works with two VMs: the Maven Surefire Plugin by default
forks a VM for running the unit tests and MAVEN_OPTS only affects the
outer VM.
To pass options to the Surefire VM, use <argLine> in the
maven-surefire-plugin configuration.
