As per this story, the initial tether is still required during setup.  That
was certainly true for the Gear 2.   I hope that you are right, Thiago!

Another similar question I have is whether the Gear S has an on-device App
Store?   That extra step will be required to get to a truly independent
device.   Without that you're in a similar situation to the older iPhones,
where it forced you to use iTunes for certain operations.
