It didn't work. Tried this instead:
Alias news://news.external.com/a_newsgroup
news://10.0.100.5/a_newsgroup (in one line)
Server news://news.external.com/a_newsgroup
It didn't work either. Tried slash after /a_newsgroup/ .
No go. Am I doing something wrong?
