Ok, after having played with the source code, i'm sure that it is not trying to use 
threads. I changed it to

#ifdef HAVE_PTHREADS
#undef HAVE_PTHREADS
in main.c

I reckon this line
#1  0xef4d7494 in res_init () from /usr/lib/libresolv.so.2
is where it dies.
