Don't worry. It is just unsigned and signed char pointer
assigments. This should not affect program functionality.
Unfortunately compiler doesn't produce those warnings on
Linux and FreeBSD. So, we can't fix :-(

Could you send gdb backtrace command output?
Please take a look into bugs.txt which is in
the doc subdirectory of unpacked .tar.gz
