Yes, but then the news extensions will not work as designed.

Then turn off the news extensions and use the normal Table creation files (create.txt
etc..) this will then limit the amount of eact message stored to the first 100
characters.
You will still have problems with some mails showing 'junk' and some just showing the
mime headers, but this will solve your inital problem.
