If this is a linux/unix box, then the routing tables in the kernel can control some choices. Something similar to what we are doing here, is that we have two machines, each with their own internet connection to the outside world. Then they also each have another network card, with a crossover cable bewteen them, which gives them a high speed dedicated link to communicate between.
