In postgres db, deleted url* and dict* files (they were huge > 30Meg), re-ran psql < create.txt and ran indexer again. Now max db file size about 5Meg. Also, for ul string in search.htm using left part of url, e.g. "http://myhttpdserver/D"; without a final / (a final / seems to also cause search for url section to not work, at least for me). Search speed is also now very much improved.
NOTE: running indexer -C and answering YES did not immediately get rid of the big db files. That's why I manually deleted them first. Not sure if this was necessary. NOTE: The db file had gotten large because I had some incorrect settings in indexer.conf and was putting data into the db multiple times,I guess.
