Thanks for the advice ... here's what happened ...

First i cleared the DB. The I ran a fresh index like this:

./indexer -am ../etc/forum3.conf 2> /tmp/forum3.crawl

and in forum3.conf ...
Allow Match http://www.mysite.com/forum/forum_3*
Server http://www.mysite.com/forum/forum_3/wwwboard.html

This worked fine, however, when I added some new messages, I tried to reindex them to
the DB:

./indexer -s0 ../etc/forum3.conf 2> /tmp/forum3.crawl
(I also tried -as0, -ams0)

nothing happened, forum3.conf looked like this ...

Indexer[7550]: indexer from mnogosearch-3.1.19/MySQL started with '../etc/forum3.conf'

Indexer[7550]: [1] Done (0 seconds)
                                                                      Obviously
nothing happened. So, messing around I ran an index using -s200 and the index worked,
but leaving out the new messages. The wierd thing is that prior to that -S did not
recognize the new entries and unindexed.

So, it seems that in order for the program to recognize there are new entries with a
status of 0, you must first run a -s200 index. which is what I'm trying to avoid in
the first place to save time on reindexing.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks again.
