The source tarball would be the preferred option and there are not many installation instructions for it :)
The error you are getting means that the repository code could not locate a BDB repository file - this could be an issue with the startup code detecting what OS you have and getting it wrong. You can set the CHANDLERHOME environment variable to point where your chandler was installed and also set PROFILEDIR environment variable where you want to store the profile directory (the repository and other temporary files are written to the PROFILEDIR path.)I used the CHANDLERHOME set to /home/bf/downloads/Chandler_linux_0_5, which is the extraction path.

Let me know which of the above suggestions work or not.Nope. I also tried to download the RPM and install it, and still the same error occurs, also when setting the paths correctly. There is a ~/.chandler directory, owned by me, which chandler created itself.
the ~/.chandler tells me the startup code is recognizing that it's on linux and that is great - can you post here the list of files that were created in the .chandler directory?
I'll also pass on to the app team the error message your getting to see if they can make something of it - if not, then I'll post a patch here to the startup code to generate some very explicit debug code so we can track down the exact problem if you don't mind doing some python debugging :)
