Hi Portals community, We'll have some space available during the ApacheCon Europe Hackaton days for community meetups. These are intended to be little mini-conferences where a project (/community) gets a room and some infrastructure, and you decide upon the actual contents. Do you need to do some talking? Want to share some new ideas? Are you looking to attract new people to the project? Then this is your chance!
Community meetups have worked out very well for the Cocoon and Wicket projects over the last couple of years, bringing together community people and outsiders that might want to join. They are cheap, community-driven events, that have an extremely low barrier to attend. Everyone is invited to speak, in quick 30 minutes slots. Entrance fees range from free (as in beer) to $100 per day, depending on any sponsoring you can find. The only thing we ask from you is that you stick to The Apache Way. The Cocoon and Wicket Meetups have brought in up to a 100 people every single time. We're now trying to get this ball rolling for other Apache projects too. And the ApacheCon is an excellent moment for this. ------------- So far for the generic message. Now here's my question. Would the Portals community be interested in organizing a Meetup during the ApacheCon Europe in Amsterdam this year? Currently, both Wicket and Jackrabbit have opted for organizing a Meetup during one of the hackaton days on April 7 or 8. Since Noel has a training on Tuesday, I can imagine you might not want to Meetup during that time. However - it might also give your JSR talk a bit more exposure if the Meetup 'connects' with your training sessions. I'd like to know whether the Portals community would like to 'book a room', for how many people, and when. - Monday 7th - Tuesday 8th For any of these days, rooms are available from 9:00 until 23:00 hours. Let me know what day and what time you think would be feasible.
