There are 2 concepts in Timeline that are related to what you want to do:

1. Unit: Each timeline has a single unit, which is by default 
milliseconds and all the usual Javascript date functionality works with 
it. The dinosaurs example shows how to use a different unit--million of 
years:

2. Ether labeler: Each band of a timeline has its own ether labeler, 
which renders labels on that band. The default labeler can render at 
different intervals like year, month, day, hour, etc. You can have 
labelers that render other kinds of label, such as the age in years of a 
person (top band):

If that doesn't suffice to get you started, let us know what sort of 
calendaring system you would like to implement.
