While somewhat more work for yourselves, if you worry that users will
adopt bittorrent to fetch the data quicker, you may set up your own
bittorrent tracker and drop the .torrent file next to the data file
itself. You get the same quality download statistics (if from a few
more log files to scrape), those who so prefer get their preferred
download method and no additional trackers pop up elsewhere.

But asking nicely as above probably works about as well.
