Hi Derek, you nailed it. The preexisting application is Longwell---if you look at it you'll see the similarity of its faceted browsing framework. And indeed, our hope is to merge exhibit back into Longwell to support scaling to larger data sets. However, it isn't a simple matter of "exporting the data to the app" because then you lose the exhibit-way of presenting the data. Rather, what needs to be done is to adapt Longwell so that it interprets exhibit templates server-side. This will be very powerful: you can develop your exhibit locally over a small data set using the current, javascript template interpreter, then just push the templates into the server and get exactly the same look and feel over the larger data set stored in the server. And, it provides a great way for people who are completely uninterested in data management, and just want to focus on interesting presentations of preexisting data (ie, all those mashup writers) to do so: they just write exhibit templates and upload them to the Simile semantic bank (which of course will hold all the triples in the world).
I'm very excited about this direction; there's just the little issue of the army of programmers (or smidgin of time taken out of David Huynh's thesis ;) ) needed to get it done. -David derek | idea company wrote: > Hi David, > Just a quick question, perhaps this was answered or asked before I > joined the mailing list, so I apologize in advance if it's been brought > up.
