Hi,

This is just a quick note to let you know what how we are progressing
with timeline in Chisimba.

The Chisimba file manager can now be used to upload a timeline XML file,
and the timeline module interface gives crude access to the timeline
properties so you can control things like height, intervalPixels, etc.
There is no security on this yet, and the interface is still the default
ugly code generated one.

There is now a standard parser plugin for timeline. Thus a CMS, course
content page, Blog or Wiki or any other type of content that uses the
standard text parser you can insert a timeline as:
[TIMELINE]http://server.domain/path/to/timeline.xml[/TIMELINE] and this
will render a timeline in the page of content.

Todo:
-Improve the interface for settings (2 hours)
-Add standard Chisimba security (10 minutes)
-Add [TIMELINE_LOCAL]chisimba_timeline_id[/TIMELINE_LOCAL] to enable
timeline settings to be configured within the content page so that it
does not just display with default settings (1 hour)
-Add interface for creating timelines (3 hours)

We have also just started a new module that will allow metadata
associated with any digital asset to contain start and end dates, and
have timelines automatically generated for digital assets by:
- file type
- directory
- user created filters (Chisimba Filemanager filters)

We are also adding the ability to store lat and long metadata to enable
the automatic generation of timeline/google map mashups from digital
assets. This module is estimated to take about 2 weeks.

This has tremendous potential in automating interfaces to digitized
historical artifacts. Or, even the Gutenberg libray.

So thanks a lot again for Timeline!

regards
derek
