Wim,
You are just too brave to load 3322 items into Exhibit... (It does work
on my machine.) You beat Wing Yung's record of 2733 lego sets.
Exhibit contains a database implemented in Javascript, and Javascript
was never meant to be used for building databases... Exhibit also does a
lot of DOM manipulation, and that isn't fast. For decent performance,
I'd recommend staying below 500 items, unless you know your target users
have fast computers.
For larger data sets, our server-based faceted browsing tool called
Longwell might be more suitable, although it's not yet as easy to configure:
