Excellent.  Thank you very much.  I have one more question that I've been
unable to figure out.  How can I eliminate the dots (.) that appear when a
label is longer than what is displayed?  I hope that makes sense.  For
reference you can view my timeline at
http://wirelessphiladelphia.org/milestones.cfm and you'll see that there are
dots after or under most event labels.  Thanks again for your help.

You can set that in the theme object, e.g.,

    theme.event.instant.lineColor = "red";

Try adding this CSS rule

    .timeline-ether-marker-bottom {
       color: blue;
       border-left: 1px solid blue;
    }
